Fashion styles come and go, some things will go out of season and not be fashionable anymore. This can be a daunting task for the modern gent to get their head around, especially if they have little knowledge of how the seasons affect your outfits. Some items of clothing, however, can be worn at any time and will always look good. In this article, there are 7 items of clothing you can wear at any time throughout the year to ensure you are always looking your best.
Good Pair Of Jeans
Jeans are great. Especially here in Britain where the weather isn’t always great apart from a few nice days here and there. This means you can get away with wearing a good pair of jeans almost all year round. Now, what will change around these are either the shoes you wear, or the tops you wear. During summer and spring months where it is slightly warmer, a pair of loafers and a lighter shirt combinations, whereas in winter a pair of boots and a jumper/coat can be worn with them. Remember to check out how to look after your jeans on my style tips article here.
Again, like the jeans. The watch can remain the same throughout the entire year it’s just what you combine it with changes. Looking for a great jack of all trades watch? A smart watch can do the trick with the changeable watch face. Not your thing? Try to look for a simple watch face with a dark leather/black strap. These are really versatile in terms of what outfit you can integrate them into. It doesn’t have to be expensive, you can easily find a cheaper watch, but the simpler the watch face and fewer functions it has, generally it looks classier and more expensive than it is. With phones being able to do almost anything these days, you just want your watch to be able to tell the time and maybe have a timer on it. Unless it’s a smart watch, any more than this is overkill.
Well Fitted T-shirt
Pretty self-explanatory, a well-fitted t-shirt can go with almost anything. They can be dressed up with a nice sports jacket/blazer and a pair of chinos/jeans. Or with a pair of shorts and loafers for a lighter summer look. You don’t need to find the smallest t-shirt you can to show off your muscles. Find a comfortable fit that is slightly form fitting and then go from there. You can roll the sleeves up slightly if you want it to fit around your arms slightly nicer. Remember your comfort is also important, if you’re not comfortable in a smaller size, you can’t be as confident as you need to be. Start with just a plain t-shirt. Printed t-shirts can be used in some places, but on their own, you should look for plain ones.
Proper fitted Suit
Who doesn’t feel good wearing a great suit? You can dress them up or down depending on the occasion. I recently wrote a guide on how a suit should fit, that can be found here. Again, you can easily match a suit with a pair of loafers during the summer, or a dressier shoe in colder months depending on where you are wearing it to of course. The great thing about suits is you are able to easily change the entire outfit by just adjusting a few things. For example, a different shirt will entirely change the look of an outfit. You can change the shoes, the accessories, your glasses, your shirt, even the colour of the suit. This is great for some diversity in your wardrobe. You don’t need to buy a £1000 suit. If it fits great on you, a cheaper suit will look much, much better than an expensive ill-fitting one. Try it all on and get it tailored if you can.
I mentioned this earlier. A sports jacket is similar to a suit blazer, but with less padding around the shoulders and less formal than a suit jacket. Usually, they are a wool material. Meaning they aren’t as smooth as a blazer which is a cotton/polyester blend. They look great as a smart casual look. They also can be worn anytime during the year as it really depends on what else you wear them with. If you put on a pair of jeans and a jumper it can be worn over the top for a winter look. Alternatively, you can pair it with some shorts and a t-shirt to add a touch of class to your outfit. Again, doesn’t have to be expensive, as long as you find a properly fitted one, they can look a lot more expensive than they really are.
Oxfords (the shoes, not shirt).
This one is a bit harder for a lot of people to pull off. Depending on the colour and type of shoe. For example, you can get a pair of suede Oxford shoes which are very much the dressed down version of the leather shoes. A pair of Tan oxfords, however, can either be part of a very nice suit or with a pair of dark trousers or jeans.
Regardless of the weather, your glasses should be used to add a touch of style to your outfit. Now, if you don’t wear glasses you don’t need to worry about this. But definitely, try to get the best fitting glasses for your face type. Don’t be afraid to try different styles, thick frames or thing frames, Metal or plastic, large or small. I personally have two different glasses I use often, one round pair and one square pair. Different glasses suit different occasions and style. Have a look at what face shape you are here and then make your decision by looking at your choices here.
A lot of these are very subjective as to what you feel comfortable wearing. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try new styles, the great thing about fashion is that you don’t even have to wear it for an entire day! You can put it on for a few hours, decide if you like it or not. If you don’t then you don’t have to wear it again. Most of these on the list you will probably already have but don’t know how to add into certain outfits or what to do with them. Hopefully, in this article, i’ve outlined a few things you can do.
